Bring back the Feedback for exams for students
The exam feedback from the old system was invaluable for the students to be able to see what areas they were having difficulty with. They could restudy those areas before retaking the test. If they see the answers, they don't learn anything except the answer.
Hello,
The Feedback for Exams for Students is available. If you uncheck the Student View Correct Answer, the item feedback for the incorrect answers are shown. This will need to be done for each assessment or this can be made default in your Activation Profile. Please let me know if you have questions. Thank you!

Hello,
We understand your request and agree it has not been resolved, but want to be very clear, so I am opening the following new idea:
"Give a feedback option that only provides references to the material to review, not the actual answer."
Please go to this idea, vote and give your feedback.
Thank you!

This is not delivered. As stated before the students are still given the correct answers even with the view correct answers not ticked. Instead of the students getting a nice sign saying this is the correct answer they just need to read the text box under each question to know which one to choose next time.
Will this be fixed as requested or is Cisco moving on from this concern that instructors have?

Hello Kimberly,
I have just tested the settings above. The student account is still provided the correct response for the majority of the answers. The correct answer is still provided as a text box below the multiple choice response.Eg. I have just done the chapter 2 exam as a student on my test course labeled 'TEST V5 ITE'. After the exam is graded and you select the feedback link the questions that are incorrect are shown. With in the list some show just the question, choices and chapter reference such as question: 'Which to in Windows XP gives .......'. where as other questions such as 'A tech wants to limit the chances of ESD........ You get a lovely big text box stating: " To prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage all components should be stored in antistatic bags until you are ready to install them. When working on components, use grounded mats on workbenches, use grounded floor mats in work areas, and wear antistatic wrist straps. " Which provides all the correct answers from the question.
This is what i thought was being removed or have i misunderstood this thread?
Thank you

Actually, not really delivered. The current feedback is not as it was with Academy Connection. The explanation of the correct and incorrect answers (both are included in the feedback) is not really any different than the students seeing the correct answer. In the old system, students were given a listing of the topics from the chapter, and the areas in which a student missed a question were highlighted. This directed them back to the curriculum, so they actually had to restudy. The LI's are included in the current feedback, but I was hoping they would not include the answer explanations. This will not encourage students to restudy. Again, they will just focus on the answers. Please bring back the original feedback from Academy Connection, or at least give instructors the option to disable the feedback boxes and only see the LI's.

Is some of this being worked on? Last week my students did the chapter 1 exam of ITE v5. i uncecked "Student View Correct Answer" and the students got the item feedback with the questions they got wrong and which chapter section to read. No correct answer was given in the feedback. This is what i think people are looking for.
This week the students have completed chapter 2 and 3 with the same settings however this time around they have the answer provided to them as well. It is not a big green tick or green "correct" located beside the correct option. The answer is given in a "text box" at the bottom of each incorrect question under the feedback page.
Just wanting to see if others are having this issue. I know it implies that it is planned so to me that implies it should not be worked on in the live environment and the chapters shouldn't be providing different feedback results.
Thank you in advance for looking in to this.

At the moment the form attributes at all checked by default - so unless you change it the student can see all questions, and the correct responses.
If you uncheck "Student View Correct Answer" they can see which questions they got wrong and where to go to find the answer. They are NOT given the correct response.
Maybe this needs to be the default setting?
Thank you for being able to change the attributes after the exam, that is very helpful. -

As an instructor I like the ability to turn this on for a short time for students and then turn it off again - this means I can do this in a controlled environment and they don't have enough time to completely memorize or record the answers they got wrong. We could do this in the old gradebook.

Feedback would tell the students in what area of the textbook they could review what they got wrong.

In response to Kimberly Kupanoff's request about what is being looked for in this request simply put would be what was in the previous version of the course in Academy Connection and specifically the exam feedback that does NOT show the exam item or the correct answer but only the areas to study. Students could click on their score and then on exam feedback and get a list of areas of the information of the exam that requires additional study.
I do not have issues with the item feedback in the new version of the curriculum and others have indicated that they use this feature. I do not use it. I need the students to be able to see the exam feedback without seeing the exam items.

It would be nice if the feedback for students allowed the option to just show them the question they got wrong and chapter / chapter area to go and read.
thank you.
P.s. Can i ask how long this takes to implement? I can see its planned but does that imply it could be some time before we see the change? -

My wish list as I see in terms of flexibility is as such. I would like to have the ability to allow viewing of the correct answers for a selected period of time, for selected students only and for a selected test. And this option should be available after an exam is already taken and completed regardless of whether the time has expired or not. This way if a student who has passed with acceptable score and who is not going to be re-taking the test can be selectively allowed to view the correct answers for review/study purposes.

Kim, any student that study hand with expectation of 100% in the exam but unfortunately score less with definitely be eager to know what he or she got wrong. My opinion is to let the student review the question they got wrong but answer should not be included. And tips about the topic in the curriculum should be reference. I suggested that, new five (5) question should be added every time student wanted to retake a chapter exam and new ten (10) question for final exam to check the altitude of student planning to see the question after the first attempt and retake again.

Kimberly, Thank you for looking at this issue. Example:I had a student get 100% on Chapter 6 Network Fundamentals subnetting test who doesn't have the first clue on what a subnet even is. Your feedback gives away the questions and answers that can be copied and posted for these cheaters to use to get grades they don't deserve. The first part of our request is... LET THE FACULTY CONTROL TO WHO AND HOW AND WHEN TO EXPOSE TEST QUESTION AND/OR ANSWERS TO STUDENTS AND NOT MAKE IT ON BY DEFAULT.
The second part of the request is... BY DEFAULT, THE FEEDBACK PAGE SHOULD GIVE STUDENTS THE OBJECTIVES OF THE TEST AND HIGHLIGHTING THE MISSED OBJECTIVES AND WHAT SECTION REFERENCE IN THE ONLINE CURRICULUM THE STUDENT CAN USE TO FIND THE MATERIAL TO STUDY FOR THAT OBJECTIVE. It used to be that way many years ago and was really good. PLEASE Do Not Just Give the students the questions and answers!!! That makes the tests worthless! I would be happy to clarify further, if needed. but I think my colleagues below have made it very clear that students should not see questions and answers by default uncontrolled. -

Yes. If the students are given the LI for where to find the information in the curriculum, they will benefit more, especially if they are going to retake the exam. The current feedback gives them too much information. Even if the correct answer is disabled, they still get too much information by seeing the actual question. The feedback used in the old Academy Connection was a perfect way for them to know the topics they missed, and be able to go back and restudy the material, rather than just looking for the answer to a question. Thank you!

As this site is set up now, I can either allow my students to see the questions (and possibly answers) or they get no feedback at all. What kind of test security is that? I already had enough trouble about my students finding test questions on the Internet. Now you are providing the questions and the answers directly to students? I am very upset about this. I have to click a radial button every time I give a test stating I am administering it in a secure environment yet you are giving the ability for students to see, print, share, etc. the test questions. This makes no sense at all, and I am FRUSTRATED!!!

Have to agree with the majority here. General feedback sending a student back to the curriculum page is USEFUL. Showing questions and correct answers by default is a NIGHTMARE for valid learning.
I learned about this today (new group starting in Netspace for the first time) and learned how to turn item review off. Looks like I have to do this manually though for every activation!!!
Please fix soon!

Sorry, I started a new thread before I saw this one so I am re-posting it here...
In NetSpace, you have the option of showing the question missed and answer, or just showing the question missed but not the answer or No feedback at all.
I would like to see the feedback point to the online curriculum page that the assessment item came from. Example 3.1.2.1
For test security, I don't want the students to have unlimited access to the question or question and answer because they could make a copy of it and pass the to other students or post on the Internet. That devalues the course because others are getting answers without knowing the material !!!!
I don't mind being able to show them the questions and answers for a SHORT period of time but need it to time out or the ability to turn it off later. As it is now, the option is on by default. , Those questions and answers are out there as long as they can access the course and it can't be turned off !! That is not Secure!

I want to retain the option of letting the student see the correct answer.

" Is this request to not show the missed question and right answer, just where to learn more?" Yes. An option for that and for the current feedback option.

When the students see the correct answers, it makes any subsequent test scores invalid. I don't know if they truly understand, or if they just memorized answers. The old feedback was excellent, pointing them to sections in the curriculum that they could go back and review before retaking the exam. It was also nice to be able to open up the answers at the end for review before the final exams (the checkbox to reveal item information). I don't even mind them seeing the questions that they missed along with a reference to the curriculum, just not the answers.
